ELD Guidelines

When shopping for an electronic logging device for your vehicle, choose ELDs that are self-certified and registered on FMCSA’s website.

It is required for the manufacturers of this logging device to self-certify the products that meet technical standards in the ELD rule and register them with FMCSA.

ELD Regulations

All carriers and drivers are subject to the ELD rule. They must use either an ELD or an AOBRD (Automatic Onboard Recording Device) by December 18, 2017.

However, starting on December 16, 2019, all vehicles must have transitioned from using AOBRD to ELD. ELDs used must have the capability of either telematic data transfer or local transfer.
